My background
Hi! I'm Angela Day. I have been working in the healthcare field for more than twenty years in a variety of capacities. I recently became a licensed marriage and family therapist because mental health is an integral part of being a healthy individual. As a person of color, I am happy to contribute my perspective and lived experience to your choice of available therapists. I focus on sex therapy because there is an immense amount of guilt and shame in our culture that negatively affects how we perceive and receive sex, sexuality, and gender. Vulnerable populations have been targeted with specific, hurtful stereotypes that can increase their distress about sexuality and gender. I believe everyone should have access to the resources to preserve their sanity, which includes sex and gender expression.
I was born and raised in the American South, and have lived in Seattle for more than a decade. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication at Old Dominion University, a Master of Science degree in Psychology at University of Phoenix, and Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (with a focus on sex therapy) at Antioch University. I studied sexuality, queer theory, and sex work in five countries (so far). I completed the 2015 Network of Interdisciplinary Women's Studies in Europe (NOISE) summer school program at Utrecht University in The Netherlands. I fulfilled my graduate internship hours in the Child and Family Services Program at Sound Mental Health. I am a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), have served as a moderator for sessions during the annual AASECT conference, and am on the path towards obtaining national certification in sex therapy.
Fun fact: As an undergraduate, I interned at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL in the College Program, earning my "Mouster's Degree" from Disney University. Being a cast member for Disney was instrumental to my understanding of how a large organization can be inclusive and welcoming of diverse sexualities, ethnicities, and cultures.
